FIRST COMMUNITY RESPITE CARE WEEKEND FOR ALZHEIMER’S PATIENTS
Sand Lake Hospital: Saturday and Sunday – The fourth leading cause of death among adults in the U.S. is Alzheimer’s. A progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions while having a high impact on entire families.
On Saturday and Sunday, Sand Lake Hospital is inviting the area to its first “Community Respite Care Weekend”. This project offers rest and relief to those families who are left with being primary care givers that is in a “high risk” category for a stress related illness by giving the opportunity to have the weekend off to do just as they please while their loved ones are safe with trained volunteers and nursing professionals.
“Anyone who has an interest in volunteering their time is greatly needed,” say Charlotte McFarland. Our program run on volunteer power alone to staff both in-home and hospital respite. Regardless of the volunteerism being difficult, the most devoted people find personal satisfaction and reward one they see how much they help, and the difference is makes in these families.
